Chapter Two
Sitting in the cold unsettling cell, waiting on Officer Smith to tell us what's going on. It was dark and all we could hear was the rain clanking against the bolded windows. “I'm not meant for a jail cell,” Gemma said. “Oh get over yourself Gemma,” Sophia said. We heard the clanking of Officer Smith's key as he walked up to the cell.
“Girls, I have an announcement… We found your friend,” Smith announced.
“You found her?”
“Where was she?
“what happened to her?”
“Unfortunately.. We found her by Cedar Cove Lake. She was dead.” We all dropped down to our knees, we couldn’t believe it. All this time we thought Sapphire ran away, we couldn’t believe she was actually murdered. “I don’t know who would've wanted to do something like this. Sapphire could be unbelievable sometimes, but I couldn't believe anyone could ever hurt her, everyone was always scared of Sapphire.” Gemma said.
Smith shrugged his shoulders and walked over to the shut door, he went inside and closed it before we could see in. Sitting on the ground in the cold cell, we just looked at eachother with bewildered looks on our faces. Smith came back and opened the cell door. “You girls are good to go, but don't go far you'll be back in for further questioning.”
We walked out of the police station, we looked around the empty parking lot. “Wanna stay at my place girls, I don't feel like being alone tonight?’ Sophia asked. We all got in the car heading to Sophia's house, when we got there we were all a little jumpy. “I'm making coffee, does anyone want any?” Gemma asked. “I can't believe what happened to Sapphire,” Selene said. We all sat there at the kitchen counter. “Hey girl’s, I'm sorry about your friend.” Sophia’s mom said with an upsetting expression on her face. “Hello coffee?” Gemma asked again. We all just looked at her. “Fine, I was only gonna make enough for one anyways.”
We all started upstairs to make a bed on the floor, We laid down staring at the cold dark ceiling. When suddenly we heard a knock at the window, We all raised up looking outside. But we didn't see anything. “Is anyone else scared?” Gemma asked. Sophia got up out of the bed, She hurried to the window to look out. As she was looking out of the window she saw a guy running away from the house. “Isn't that Seth? She asked. “I knew he always seemed a little off,” Gemma said. I just stood there looking, I couldn't believe it could be seth. He just moved to MapleWood. We all laid back down, closing our eyes shut.
When we woke up we walked down stairs seeing our parents sitting down on the kitchen counter. “What's going on mom?” Sophia asked. “Well girls, We think you girls should spend a few days apart. With everything going on we don't want people to become more suspicious.” Sophia's mom announced. “Dad, do you have a say in this?” Sophia asked. Her dad Just stood there. We heard a knock on the door, Gemma walked over to the door exposing Officer Smith. “Hello ladies!” Sophia's mom got up and went outside, closing the door behind her. We were all worried we didn't know what to think. Finally Sophia's mom walked back inside slamming the door behind her. “Mom what's going on, what did Officer Smith say?” Her mom just stood there, she walked over to the counter. “Girls, I think it's time for you to go home,” she said. We all walked outside walking to our cars to go home.
